Higher education curates content experts who may or may not have formal training in education. While newer teaching methodologies are coming into play, a significant amount of teaching still involves large group presentations with the use of a slide deck. Presentations at national meetings also rely heavily on slide decks. In this session, we will distill the evidence about neurobiology of learning and instructional design to provide best practices for designing effective presentations, including presentation style, elocution, slide design, and presentation structure. Collectively, we will lift our colleagues by sharing the expertise that we have gained over the years.
Learning Objectives:
Describe best practices for presentation structure and slide design.
Explain the impact of presentation style, including verbal and non-verbal communication, on the audience.
Self-assess one’s own presentations and identify ways to improve.
