Interprofessional education and practice is often more theoretical than practical in dental education (dental school/residency). In this workshop, participants will be assigned roles on an interprofessional team and will discuss the management and care of a mock patient who presents for dental treatment in a dental school clinic/hospital dental clinic. Participants will work in small groups and learn how to best engage and interact with other members on an interprofessional team in a fun and dynamic way. This exercise can be emulated in a variety of dental education environments to better teach students/residents about interprofessional collaboration.

Learning Objectives:

Explain the roles and responsibilities of the interprofessional team (including physician, social worker, CDHC, RDH, pharmacist, nutritionist, family member) and how the team provides care and promotes health.
Analyze when the expertise of a particular health care professional would be helpful in the care of patients.
Engage diverse professionals who complement one’s own professional expertise, as well as associated resources, to develop strategies to meet specific health and health care needs of patients.
Explain the roles and responsibilities of the interprofessional team (including physician, social worker, CDHC, RDH, pharmacist, nutritionist, family member) and how the team provides care and promotes health.
