In any crisis, organizational efforts are typically focused on operations, while faculty development efforts are negatively affected. This particularly impacts junior faculty who require these experiences to advance their careers. Further, the added burden of managing changes in household labor effort, childcare responsibilities, and caring for elders in the family, affect female faculty the most. This session will describe an approach to provide holistic yet empathetic faculty evaluations during any crisis, that is referred to as the REAL approach: Recognize impact, Educate committees, Ask specific questions/document, Leverage resources.
