Speakers review basic bone fixation principles and reinforce understanding of the forces acting upon fractures of varying configurations, durations, and prior interventions. As a fracture's type and conformation may dictate any approach to stabilization, current methods, techniques, and implant strategies are reviewed, including bone plating, external skeletal fixation, and interlocking nails. Conditions presented may include diaphyseal and metaphyseal fractures, physical and other juxta-articular fractures, articular fractures, and primary fixation failures with revision stabilization techniques. There is a discussion of a patient-specific and systematic approach to fracture management decision-making, including pre-operative two-dimensional case planning.
