This lecture will focus on common surgical procedures performed on marine mammals, and a few unusual cases, from both captive and wildlife settings. Captive and free-ranging marine mammals are subject to very different health and survival conditions, and the potential surgical benefit to the individual animal and its circumstances, including assessment of congenital defects and potential population effects, will be discussed.
