The overarching goals of intra-operative x-ray imaging of THR is to reduce both intra-operative and short-term post-operative complications and to improve total hip replacement outcomes.
I plan to share nearly 10 years clinical experience in the use of intra-operative x-ray imaging of the THR procedure to: 1. Understand the effects of initial pelvis malpositioning during THR; 2. Understand the possible movement of the pelvis during retraction and acetabular preparation-reaming and acetabular cup impaction; 3. Improve initial patient positioning and the ability to make adjustments of the pelvis position during the THR procedure; 4. Improve acetabular and femoral bone preparation techniques including femoral broach size selection and broach alignment in the frontal and sagittal planes; 5. Optimize both acetabular and femoral implant size and implant position; 6. Use of the acetabular cup position assessment device; 7. Complement THR surgeon training and development through intra-operative observation; and 8. Transference of confidence to the THR surgeon
All objectives shall be supported by clinical case material including intra-operative and postoperative x-ray imaging.
