Trauma patients are anesthetically unique and often require multi-modal analgesia and anesthesia. This lecture is a high-level discussion of anesthetic considerations in polytrauma patients. There will be a brief discussion of pain physiology and some of the challenges the anesthetist can face when providing anesthesia and analgesia to polytrauma patients. The lecture reviews a variety of medications that can be utilized to provide safer anesthesia, sedation, and to assure patient comfort.
