•Attendees will gain a basic understanding of diversity, inclusion, equity and belonging and the benefits of creating an inclusive environment. •Diversity among students directly impacts their performance. Studies show that students work better in a diverse environment, encouraging them to advance and learn in an atmosphere of belonging when they see a reflection of themselves in the teaching and learning environment. It also encourages creativity and critical thinking. •Historically Black Colleges and Universities have paved the way for inclusive practices out of necessity. Examining existing inclusive practices in higher education and veterinary medicine will demonstrate how inclusive excellence can be achieved by amplifying diversity and equitable practices.
