Indications for limb amputation include both curable and life-limiting conditions. Contraindications for limb amputation are less well-defined. Accepted limb amputation alternatives include: Pain medication, radiation therapy, partial limb amputation, and limb-spare surgery. Each of these treatment options have pros and cons. Cementoplasty is a surgical procedure used in human patients with bone cancer. The role of cementoplasty as a limb-sparing option for dogs with bone tumors is being investigated. The limb amputation literature will bd discussed.
