What Is DEI? What Is the Economic Impact to Our Practice as It Relates to Our Staff, Clients and the Communities We Serve?

The interest in cultivating diverse veterinary healthcare teams - which more accurately reflect the communities we serve - has been gaining strength recently. The moral imperative to help address or repair a history rife with inequities is being actively discussed in some circles. The economic impact on business is an under discussed advantage of instituting DEI principles. The positive economic impact of DEI initiatives can lead to tangible improvements and positive measurable outcomes. This lecture discusses some of the benefits veterinary team members can experiences as a sequelae to incorporating DEI initiatives. Studies prove that diverse teams can improve retention rates, profit margins and overall value. In plain terms, by selecting from a diverse talent pool, it can improve compliance which ultimately results in better patient care and solicitude for our colleagues.
