This lecture draws upon data from research in the veterinary, economic, and social sciences to discuss the current status, and possible causes, of the gender-based income gap. Structural and psychological factors beyond just bias that may influence observed differences in generation of income are discussed in order to more thoughtfully understand a female dominated workforce, as well as to consider the effects on the economics of the veterinary profession. Attendees are led to consider ways in which a female workforce can be more specifically supported and rewarded to help improve professional sustainability and satisfaction and adapt to a changing demographic.
