Providing safe and esthetically pleasing euthanasia services to a horse and an equine client can be challenging. This challenge is compounded when barbiturates are used because of concerns about residue levels that persist for periods of two years or longer. The lecture describes the currently accepted methods of producing humane euthanasia and discusses the advantages and disadvantages of each in the context of the horse, the client, the law, and the environment.
