Since its inception, veterinary surgery has lacked diversity. Although the veterinary surgery community has become more diverse in the last two decades, there is still a significant difference from the general population. The lack of diversity in veterinary surgery leads to challenges in meeting the specific needs of both clients and colleagues in the field. This seminar explores the current state of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in veterinary surgery, along with a comparative examination of variety in other healthcare disciplines. This seminar reviews current demographic statistics, how the lack of diversity affects its membership, and address those challenges. An interactive panel discussion follows the talk to share experiences and crowdsource ideas.
