Dr. Lopez is a Professor of Veterinary Surgery at Louisiana State University. Originally from the Pacific Northwest, Dr. Lopez’ higher education began in the California State University (BS) and University of California (DVM) systems. Surgical residency training, graduate degrees and post-doctoral experience were received at the University of Wisconsin (MS, PhD, post-doctoral fellowship). Dr. Lopez joined Louisiana State University in January 2004 to design, implement and direct a multi-faceted orthopedic research program, the Laboratory for Equine and Comparative Orthopedic Research. Dr. Lopez has mentored over 100 students and has authored over 100 abstracts, 90 manuscripts, 10 book chapters, and a book. She is an associate editor for Veterinary Surgery and is on many public and private review boards. Dr. Lopez is a member of many organizations including the National Academy of Inventors, American Veterinary Medical Association, Sigma Xi, American College of Veterinary Surgeons, American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the Orthopaedic Research Society. She supports her laboratory with funding from national, industry, and foundation sources and has maintained continuous extramural funding for over two decades.
Dr. Lopez received the Zoetis Award for Veterinary Research Excellence and is a Southeastern Conference Academic Leadership Development alumnus. She holds five U.S. patents and two international patents that have been licensed. Dr. Lopez works with hundreds of colleagues across the nation and the globe. Her commitment to her professional and local community is evident from participation in and leadership of numerous Departmental, School, University, and National committees. Dr. Lopez maintains that her greatest accomplishment is the future innovators and caregivers that she had the great honor to mentor. She strives to maintain an environment that appreciates the worth and dignity of each member and values their limitless intellectual potential.
