Lacy Kamm grew up on a farm in Ohio. She went to veterinary school at Colorado State University and then did an internship at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital. Lacy completed post-graduate work at Cornell University where she first studied mesenchymal stromal cells. Then she returned to Colorado State to complete a residency in equine surgery. Lacy then spent ten years in Auckland, New Zealand working as an equine surgeon in private practice. During her time as there, she also served as a founder and director of a commercial mesenchymal stromal cell laboratory and became an owner/director of the 13-veterinarian equine practice. She completed a PhD at Massey University researching immune response to allogeneic mesenchymal stromal cells. She then returned to the US to take an assistant professor position in large animal surgery at Oregon State University.
