Dr. Pulcini has over 24 years of biofilm research experience and has been the assistant manager of the Medical Biofilm Laboratory (MBL) at the Center for Biofilm Engineering (CBE), Montana State University-Bozeman for the past 15 years. In addition to conducting research in support of NIH and DOD grants, the MBL has completed projects for over 50 companies, and participated in Small Business Innovation Research Program (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer Research (STTR) funded projects. As a member of the Medical Biofilms Laboratory since 2004, Dr. Pulcini has been involved with research of chronic wounds including NIH funded projects to examine the role of biofilms in chronic wounds, examine the microbial community of chronic wounds using molecular methodologies and an examination of oxygen concentrations within a chronic wounds as well as the development of chronic wound in vitro models to evaluate wound care products and methodologies. In addition, Dr. Pulcini has evaluated the efficacy of various products for both prevention and reduction of biofilm formation in catheters (urinary and venous), needle-free connectors and contact lenses.
