Dr. Munsterman is an associate professor of large animal surgery and emergency medicine at Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She earned her DVM in 2001 from the University of Missouri. She completed a master's degree and residency in equine surgery at The Ohio State University. After a fellowship in large animal critical care at Auburn University leading to ACVECC board certification, she obtained a PhD based on her work, which centered on advanced monitoring tools for equine gastrointestinal disease. She served as head of the large animal critical care service at Auburn University for 10 years, followed by four years as a large animal surgeon at the University of Wisconsin. Dr. Munsterman is the author of more than 120 book chapters, peer-reviewed manuscripts, and scientific abstracts. Her research interests are focused on the diagnosis and treatment of intra-abdominal hypertension and gastrointestinal ileus.
