Dr. Koch is a 2001 graduate of the Vetsuisse Faculty, University of Bern, Switzerland. After veterinary school, he worked two years as a large animal practitioner in rural Switzerland, mainly serving dairy farmers and horse owners. In 2003, he returned to the Vetsuisse Faculty for an internship at the equine hospital and to work on his DMV thesis. To further pursue a specialization in equine surgery, he completed a surgical internship at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute in Lexington, KY, followed by a residency program at the University of Madison, WI. He then returned to Switzerland to rejoin the Vetsuisse Faculty as a clinical instructor at the equine hospital.
Dr. Koch is a board-certified Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons and European College of Veterinary Surgeons. His clinical work engages all aspects of equine surgery, including soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, as well as equine dentistry. As an equine surgeon, he has a particular interest in minimally invasive surgery, respiratory and urogenital tract surgery, and computer-assisted orthopedic surgery. His research has focused on equine sarcoid disease and, more recently, computer-assisted surgery in horses.
