Dr. Balsa is an assistant professor of clinical soft tissue surgery at the University of California, Davis. She received a bachelor’s degree in wildlife ecology and a master’s degree in secondary science education from the University of Arizona. She was a middle and high school public school teacher for several years prior to attending veterinary school at the University of Minnesota. She completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at North Carolina State University and her small animal surgery residency at the University of California, Davis. She became an ACVS Diplomate in 2017. Dr. Balsa enjoys melding her two careers in her current faculty position. She is an ACVS Fellow, Minimally Invasive Surgery (Small Animal Soft Tissue) and has a research interest in minimally invasive surgery, endocrine surgery, and educational pedagogy and policy.
