Dr. Santschi graduated from the University of Illinois in College of Veterinary Medicine in 1984 and completed a large animal internship at North Carolina State University followed by a residency in equine surgery at Peterson and Smith Equine Hospital in Ocala, Florida. She became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgery in 1992. Following her residency, she worked as a staff surgeon in Florida and then entered academic practice where she has taught and practiced for over 30 years, while retaining a strong connection with private practice, most notably with Equine Medical Associates in Lexington, KY. She is presently a professor of equine surgery at Kansas State University with a focus on orthopedics of the young horse. Dr. Santschi has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles and has extensively lectured at professional conferences on her clinical experiences, including the development of the novel technique of using screws to treat subchondral lucencies.
