Dr. Kapatkin received her BS in animal science in 1978 from Purdue University and her DVM from Gregorio Araneta University Foundation (GAUF) in the Philippines in 1981. Her internship and surgery residency were at The Animal Medical Center (AMC) in NY from 1985-1990 after four years of general practice. She spent six additional years at the AMC as a staff orthopedic surgeon, then spent eight years at the University of Pennsylvania as an assistant and then associate professor in orthopedic surgery and has been at the University of California, Davis since 2004 as a tenured associate and now full professor of orthopedic surgery. She received her master of clinical research at the University of California, Davis in 2007. Dr. Kapatkin is a Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Surgeons, an ACVS Founding Fellow, Joint Replacement Surgery, she served on the ACVS Board of Regents in the past, and as the ACVS representative to ABVS and VSOC. Dr. Kapatkin is an active AOVET/AONA faculty member and presently the President of AONA as well as on the steering committee for AO Foundation's ACCESS group promoting DEI initiatives.
