Morello Veterinary Insights; Cornell University Center for Veterinary Business and Entrepreneurship
Madison, Wisconsin
Dr. Morello received her BS and DVM from Cornell University and completed a large animal surgery residency at the University of Pennsylvania’s New Bolton Center. She spent over a decade in academia as an associate professor of surgery focused on musculoskeletal and upper airway diseases. In addition to her clinical research, Dr. Morello has extensive experience investigating and speaking on professional sustainability, economic, and personal life issues in veterinary medicine with a particular focus on gender and diversity. She has been an invited speaker nationally and internationally and at veterinary schools across the country. Projects have focused on work-life issues for veterinarians, residency selection, house officer compensation, and how gender stereotypes affect perceptions of veterinary medicine. Her goals are to provide data to improve mentorship, inform career decisions, and to guide those in management and leadership roles to shape the policies that can help improve the veterinary workforce. She serves as the assistant director for continuing education for the American College of Veterinary Surgeons and as a faculty member with AOVet. She helped design, launch, and now leads a task force, advancing faculty and leader development for the internationally run AO Access program, which is dedicated to improving gender and racial diversity, opportunity, and mentorship among a global community of human and veterinary orthopedic surgeons. She also serves on the board for the Women’s Veterinary Leadership Development Initiative. Dr. Morello is now self employed as a consultant, based in Madison, Wisconsin, and is a courtesy associate professor at the Cornell University Center for Veterinary Business and Entrepreneurship.
