Fractures in ruminant species have both unique challenges and advantages. The best outcomes for both the patient and client stem from decision analysis considering the animal, owner, and economics. Many bovine fractures can heal with the use of external stabilization techniques, avoiding open reduction and internal fixation. This session will describe methods available for stabilizing and treating certain fractures that lend themselves to transfixation pin casts and Thomas splinting.
