This neurology case report highlights the importance of veterinary technicians in the assessment, nursing care, and treatment of patients with SRMA. Emphasis on the ability of RVTs to recognize this disease process and understand the pathophysiology of the associated clinical signs improves the ability of early intervention and, thus, the prognosis for recovery. By understanding pain pathways and interpreting pain assessments RVTs can play a key role in the improvement in the quality of life of these patients with the use of a multimodal analgesic plan.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion participant will be able to describe the common presentation of a canine patient with SRMA.
Upon completion participant will be able to better understand the pathophysiology of the associated clinical signs of SRMA.
Upon completion participant will be able to understand how the use of multimodal analgesia and interpreting pain assessments can play a key role in the improvement in the quality of life of patients diagnosed with SRMA.
