This session will focus on the importance of recognizing and treating cachexia and inappetence in dogs and cats. Emphasis will be placed on published evidence linking BCS and disease outcome in several body systems, relevant pathophysiology of appetite, food consumption and hyporexia, and available pharmacologic interventions.

Attendees will be able to describe the association between body condition score and outcome in chronic diseases
Attendees will be able to prescribe interventions to address unintended weight loss and inappetence in dogs and cats
Attendees will be able to describe relevant pathophysiology as it relates to manipulation of appetite in dogs and cats
