The intestinal microbiome is a complex microbial system and interacts with the host immune system through various mechanisms, including bacteria-derived metabolites. This presentation will review novel information about the importance of intestinal bacteria for maintaining host health and how changes in the microbiome (ie, dysbiosis) impacts the intestinal tract but also other organ systems.

Understand the various mechanisms between intestinal bacteria and the host immune system
Learn methods to evaluate the intestinal microbiome and its function
Learn how microbiome interventions can influence host immunity
