The lecture prepares the staff to provide best support to diagnostic and interventional procedures in neurological patients carried out by the clinicians and subsequently laboratory diagnosticians. In particular, the audience will be instructed in critical immediate steps, necessary to obtain intraoperative data and to preserve samples for specific diagnostic procedures (e.g. cytology, PCR, enzymology etc). The lecture further illustrates the specific packing and shipping requirements for inactivated and non-inactivated biological material of various susceptibility to autolysis and artefacts.

To understand which information is to be requested from referral labs and courier services.
To understand the vulnerability and susceptibility of neural and muscle tissues to physical damage, chemical artefact and autolysis.
To be able to prepare the correct set of vessels and preservatives for the samples.
