Catarina Barros graduated in 2018 from the University of Lisbon in Portugal, undertaking several
externships in Belgium, Spain, France and the UK during her studies. After graduating, Catarina
participated in a 12‐month internship at the Equine Surgery and Emergency Service in Portugal, where she
combined both clinical and academic strands, leading a research project on equine piroplasmosis. In 2019,
Catarina moved to Belgium to complete a one‐year internship at the Dierenkliniek De Morette. This is
where she developed a keen interest in internal medicine and neonatology. Catarina started her journey in the United States in March 2021 at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute, currently undergoing her second year as an Internal Medicine Fellow at the practice.
