Dr. Shepherd graduated from veterinary school in 2006 and was in equine general practice for two years before completing a comparative (all species) nutrition residency and PhD in 2012. Dr. Shepherd directed the Nutrition Service at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine from 2012-2022. In addition to clinical service, Dr. Shepherd taught nutrition to veterinary students, conducted research on overweight management and nutrition implementation and helped to advance the college's diversity equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts. Dr. Shepherd established Veterinary Clinical Nutrition in 2021 to expand her nutrition practice.
