Dr. Stephen Cole, MS, VMD, is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Microbiology at PennVet. He is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Microbiologists with subspecialty certification in bacteriology, immunology and virology in 2020. Dr. Cole’s research focuses how to understand and mitigate the spread of antibiotic resistant bacteria in companion animals. Through his work, he aims (1) to characterize the clinical and molecular epidemiology of extensively drug resistant bacteria (i.e. carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales) of dogs and cats and (2) to establish best educational practices in antimicrobial stewardship.
