Drug-Induced Liver Injury (DILI) is an important and under-recognized cause of hepatic disease in humans and small animal patients. This session will discuss the current understanding of the pathogenesis of DILI, the classification schema used for DILI, as well as known risk factors in human medicine. We will then address how these concepts can be applied in veterinary medicine and enhance our identification and management of DILI in small animal species.

Learning Objectives:

Participants will be able to describe and differentiate between direct and idiosyncratic drug-induced liver injury.
Participants will understand the role of genetic and acquired risk factors in the pathogenesis drug-induced liver injury.
Participants will more readily identify potential cases of drug-induced liver injury in veterinary patients.
