The Microbiome's Role in Bile Acid Dysmetabolism

The microbiome plays a functional role in many physiological processes in the host. These intensely diverse communities shape the health of the host and influence its physiology, through multiple complex pathways. Dysbiosis-induced bile acid dysmetabolism plays a role in chronic gastrointestinal disease, and possibly metabolic syndrome, along with affecting intestinal inflammation and barrier protection. This session will present an overview of what we currently know about the GI microbiome, the role of bile acids, and the process of recycling bile, along with the role of the microbiota in this process.
