Hemostatic disorders can be difficult to identify, diagnosis, and treat. Viscoelastography has become a popular method of assessing hemostasis in dogs and cats; however, it is unclear the best way to utilize- viscoelastograms to help initiate and adjust anticoagulant, antiplatelet, and antifibrinolytic therapies. Based on current and ongoing research, this session will discuss the role viscoelastrograms play in diagnosing and monitoring small animal patients that have hemostatic disorders. This session will also discuss how viscoelastrograms can be used to adjust anticoagulant, antiplatelet, and antifibrinolytic therapies.

Learning Objectives:

Understand how viscoelastrograms can be used to diagnosis hemostatic disorders.
Understand how viscoelastrograms can be used to monitor and adjust thromboprophylaxis (or thromboprophylactic therapies) in dogs and cats.
Understand the benefits of antifibrinolytic therapies and when to use these medications in dogs and cats.
