Technician Case Report: Hyalohyphomycosis with Secondary IMPA and Seizures in a Canine

Hyalohypomycosis is a rare mycotic infection that represents a group of ubiquitous fungi that can cause a variety of clinical findings in affected animals. The presentation can range significantly between affected patients, but infection is typically associated with immunosuppression. In the patient’s case, the initial presentation was through the surgical department for suspected orthopedic disease, which ultimately resulted in a diagnosis of immune-mediated polyarthropathy secondary to disseminated fungal disease. Nursing care for patients with disseminated mycotic infections varies based on the underlying pathology. Related care ranges from gathering diagnostics samples and specific antifungal infusion administration to client education and communication.
