In this session, we will go through the indications, procedures and pitfalls of colonoscopies and ileoscopies endoscopy in dogs and cats. The presentation will consist of illustrative case material and videos. Colonoscopy, and endoscopy of the cecum and ileum will be taught. Particular attention will be given to pitfalls of the procedures for attendees who have not performed any or only some LGI endoscopies.

In this session, we will go through the indications, procedures and pitfalls of upper GI endoscopy in dogs and cats. The presentation will consist of illustrative case material and videos. Esophagoscopy including foreign body removal, as well as endoscopic assessment of the stomach and small intestine will be taught. Particular attention will be given to pitfalls of the procedure for attendees who have not performed any or only some UGI endoscopies.

Learning Objectives:

The particpant will be able to recognize normal versus abnormal GI endoscopic mucosal appearances to maximize histopathologic diagnosis. Dteremine when and what GI organs to biopsy?; Decide when do you acquire biopsies of the ileum - in dogs and cats?
The paticipant will become familiar with practical tips on biopsy forceps selection and biopsy techniques to optimize diagnostic quality of tissue samples. Do different sized forceps matter? The attendee will understand what constitutes an acceptable vs inadequate biopsy for histoapthogic diagnosis. The atendee will learn 3 three diagnostic biopsy techniques to optimize the corect histopathologic diagnosis,
A step-by-step effective technique for performing balloon dilation of esophageal and intestinal (rectal) strictures will be demonstrated to attendees, to include recommendations for post-dilation medical therapy. Other intervention techniques including foreign body extractions and GI exfolitaive cytology will be demonstrated to atendees.
Attendees will learn how to best perform LGI endoscopy and have the opportunity to interactively learn from a gastroenterology specialist who has performed >4000 procedures in the last 25 years.
