Private practitioners are increasingly being asked to provide services to clients owning small, back-yard poultry flocks. The breeds of poultry used vary widely in production traits, management and nutrition. This presentation discusses interactions between genetics, nutrition and disease specific to poultry, providing practitioners with tools to enable them to better address the needs of clients.

Learning Objectives:

The practitioner will be able to relate to clients the way in which genetics, nutrition and disease interact in poultry.
The practitioner will be able to give multiple examples of these interactions.
The practitioner will be able to utilize the principles discussed to manage disease occurrence in small-flock poultry.
