This session will discuss important considerations when prescribing antibiotics for calves including the impact of age and physiology. Further discussion will look at the indications for antibiotic therapy in calves with emphasis on prudent and legal use.

Learning Objectives:

Identify the key physiologic differences in calves versus adults that can affect antimicrobial dosing.
List the indications for antimicrobial use in calves with diarrhea and the most reasonable empiric drug selection.
Based on published literature, identify the antibiotic most likely to be effective in calves with bronchopneumonia.
