Therapeutic Drug Monitoring of Zonisamide in Canine Epilepsy

The goal of this presentation is to discuss the widely used Anti-Seizure Medication called zonisamide. To date there are very few reports on this drug in veterinary medicine, especially when it comes to efficacy. We aim to discuss this drug in terms of mechanism of action, the body of literature in veterinary medicine on this medication, and the findings from a large database of zonisamide submissions to the clinical pharmacology laboratory at Auburn University. Our goal by analyzing this data was to describe the population of patients on zonisamide, determine efficacy, come up with dosing recommendations, and to establish a reference interval.
