Clinical and scientific leaders at an inpatient rehabilitation hospital describe the process for designing, implementing, and evaluating strategies to support clinicians and researchers in a major organizational transition to a new model of care. These strategies include both geographic initiatives (changes in architecture and location) as well as interactional initiatives (funding opportunities and interdisciplinary forums) to bridge the cultural divide, facilitate rehabilitation research and increase clinician- researcher interactions.

Learning Objectives:

1) Explain the cultural differences between researchers and clinicians in a rehabilitation setting.
2) Understand employee attitudes, acceptance of change, and participation in research activities before, during, and after colocation and interactional initiatives.
3) Describe implementation strategies to facilitate communication, collaboration, clinician–researcher interaction and scientific productivity.
