Jeffrey Basford MD, PhD is a Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Dr. Basford has a diverse background in science and medicine that includes a PhD in physics and mathematics, teaching college level physics as a Peace Corps Volunteer and serving as an officer in the U.S. Army. Following his military service, he worked as a research and development consultant and attended medical school at the University of Miami. He completed residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in 1981. Dr. Basford has been a member of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Mayo Clinic since 1982 where his clinical responsibilities and research interests have emphasized neurological rehabilitation and musculoskeletal pain. Dr. Basford's research has focused on central nervous system rehabilitation and the effects of physical agents such as electromagnetic energy on the body. Dr. Basford is currently Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Mayo Clinic, past director of its NIH Rehabilitation Research Training Program, and past chair of the department's research committee. He is a corresponding member of the Japanese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine, a Fellow of the ACRM (American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine), and has served on numerous editorial boards, graduate thesis committees, and advisory panels. He is currently Editor in Chief of the Archives of Rehabilitation Research and Clinical Translation and was previously Editor in Chief of the Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
