Dr. Brad Willingham is a Clinical Research Scientist at Shepherd Center whose work focuses on the development of innovative technologies and strategies to advance rehabilitation in people with MS. Dr. Willingham is originally from the Atlanta area and started his career in rehabilitation working as an Exercise Physiologist at Shepherd Center. Through this experience, he became interested in research questions that could guide evidence-based treatment strategies and developed research collaborations that led him to complete his PhD in Exercise Physiology at the University of Georgia. Before his recent return to Shepherd Center, Dr. Willingham spent the past four years serving as a postdoctoral fellow at the National Institutes of Health where he received advanced training in bioenergetics. His work in clinical and biomedical research has resulted in fifteen publications in the scientific literature and made substantial contributions to the fields of rehabilitation science and muscle cell biology. Dr. Willingham also has a personal passion for exercise and enjoys pushing his physical limits through long-distance endurance exercise, power lifting, and watersports.
