Lilly Lerer is an experienced anthropological researcher in the field of medical anthropology, with a focus on understanding patient and provider experiences. She has conducted several qualitative studies on topics including sexual function in the setting of cancer treatment, recovery after traumatic injury from community violence, knowledge and attitudes about end-of-life care. She has conducted qualitative research both locally and internationally, in settings including the South Side of Chicago and Wuhan, China. Both independently and in collaboration with research teams, she has designed and executed qualitative studies involving ethnographic observation, one-on-one interviewing, focus groups, and surveys. She has published an ethnographic study of hospice care in Chicago in a peer-reviewed journal. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Comparative Human Development from the University of Chicago in 2014, where she received extensive training in qualitative research, including methodology, data collection, and data analysis. As a medical student, she has conducted qualitative research with several physician-scientists, focusing on generating data that can improve understanding of patient experience, and improve clinical practice.
