Research Health Scientist
W.G. (Bill) Hefner VA Medical Center, United States
I am a generalist neurobiologist with expertise in neurophysiology, neuroimaging, functional neuroanatomy,
neuropsychiatric disorders, and traumatic brain injury (TBI). I am a Fellow of the American Neuropsychiatric
Association, a Research Health Scientist for the W.G. Hefner VAMC and an active participant in the VA-funded
multi-site mental health center of excellence (Mental Illness Research, Education and Clinical Center,
MIRECC) that is focused on post deployment mental health issues. My research focus is utilizing
neurobehavioral assessment and multiple neuroimaging techniques to advance understanding of TBI and
psychiatric co-morbidities in the post deployment Veteran population. I am particularly interested in TBI due to
primary blast forces. This work is presently funded by the VA/DoD Chronic Effects of Neurotrauma Consortium
(CENC), and was previously funded by DoD Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defense Organization
(JIEDDO) and locally. I also serve as the primary research mentor for our site’s MIRECC Fellows as well as
interested clinical staff. A significant portion of my effort is dedicated to facilitating the development at the
Salisbury VAHCS of a productive multidisciplinary collaborative focused on translational clinical neuroscience
research relevant to improving outcomes for Veterans.
I do not have any relevant financial / non-financial relationships with any proprietary interests.
