Alberto Esquenazi, MD, serves as the John Otto Haas Chair of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Albert Einstein Medical Center, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and is Chief Medical Officer of MossRehab/Einstein at Elkins Park, as well as Director of the Gait and Motion Analysis Laboratory, Clinical Director of the Regional Amputee Center, and Chief of the Prosthetic and Orthotic Clinic. Also in Philadelphia, Dr. Esquenazi is Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine at Jefferson University and the Enterprise Senior Vice president for rehabilitation and post-acute care.
Dr. Esquenazi received his medical degree in Medicine and Surgery from Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, in Mexico City. He completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the Temple University/ MossRehab program in Philadelphia, and a fellowship in gait analysis and prosthetic research at MossRehab. His research focuses on spasticity, gait analysis, limb prosthetics, orthotics, and pioneering applications of robotics for rehabilitation. Dr. Esquenazi has published over 140 articles and book chapters. His research and clinical work have led him to be an invited speaker at national and international events.
Dr. Esquenazi is a member of several national and international professional, educational, and research societies and review panels, he Chaired the National Advisory Board on Medical Rehabilitation Research of the National Institute of Child and Human Development of the National Institutes of Health. He serves on the editorial boards for several national and international journals. He is Past-President of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and recipient of the Frank Krusen Lifetime Achievement Award. He is the recipient of other prestigious national and international awards for his clinical and research innovation and educational efforts and has repeatedly been recognized among “Top Doctors” in Philadelphia and nationally
