Megan Murphey, PT, DPT, ATP, NCS is the Assistive Technology Specialist at Sheltering Arms Institute. In addition to partnering with therapists and patients to select the most appropriate seating, positioning, and assistive technologies, Megan will train team members and elevate the institute focus on assistive strategies to improve function and quality of life. Megan recently worked with other advocacy groups to introduce legislation in the state of Virginia allowing individuals residing in nursing facilities to receive complex seating and positioning devices. Her areas of clinical interest include treating patients with spinal cord injury, wheelchair prescription and positioning, stroke and traumatic brain injury. She became a board certified Neurologic Clinical Specialist in 2014. She is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association as well as the Neurologic Section and Spinal Cord Injury Special Interest Group. She recieved her Assistive Technology Professional certification in 2019. In addition, Megan also participates annually in management of an overnight camp for adult survivors of traumatic brain injury that allows individuals with brain injury an opportunity for socialization and recreation as well as respite for their caregivers.
