Hariklia Proios is Associate Professor of Neurocognitive Disorders and Rehabilitation at the Dept. of Educational and Social Policy of the University of Macedonia, in Thessaloniki, Greece, and director of the Lab for Theoretical and Applied Neurosciences in the same department. She heads the SLP Department of the Anagennisis Rehabilitation Centre, in Thessaloniki, Greece and has been involved with the organization of community support groups in several countries. She holds a PhD degree from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a B.A. from Hofstra University. She was an Assistant Professor at Montclair State University where she received tenure and worked as Research Associate at the Cognitive Neuropsychology Laboratory at Harvard University. She also worked as Research affiliate of the Neuropsychology Unit, of the Department of Neurology, at the University Hospital of Zurich. Her research interests include adult aphasia, visual hemi-spatial neglect, and number processing difficulties in aphasic subjects. She is interested in the development and implementation of theoretical constructs for evaluating neurological cases, as well as in the extension and development of standardized tools for patient screening and testing. She is the President of SAFE (the Stroke Alliance For Europe) since 2020, and a Board member of SAFE since 2016, representing the Hellenic Alliance for Stroke SSO. She has been a member of the National Aphasia Association Advisory Council since 2009 and of the Multicultural Task Force. Since 2016 she is a member of the Academy of Aphasia. In 2018 she was selected for the Emerging Leaders Program of the World Heart Federation (WHF). She is active in Stroke and Rehab committees in the World Health Organization (WHO) and the American Congress of Rehab Medicine.
