Sima Desai, MD, MS is an Assistant Professor at Carolinas Rehabilitation. Her interests include traumatic brain injuries, strokes, neurorehabilitation and spasticity. She is board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation as well as brain injury medicine. She recently became the director for the brain injury medicine fellowship at Carolinas Rehabilitation. She received her bachelor’s degree at Emory University, master’s degree at Tulane University, and medical degree at Ross University School of Medicine. She completed residency at Tufts Medical Center and followed that with a fellowship at The University of Texas.
Her research interests are currently within traumatic brain injury (TBI) in both the acute and post acute settings. Additionally, she has further interests in spasticity management. As an early career physiatrist, she is interested in how spasticity affects mobility, pharmacological management options in the TBI population, and long term sequelae of TBI. She is a member of the American Congress of Rehabilitation, Association of Academic Physiatrists, and International Brain Injury Association.
