Dr. Wong is trained and work as a researcher with a focus on occupational therapy (OT) and rehabilitation sciences. Her long-term research goal is to improve our understanding of strategies to enhance the employment outcomes of people living with chronic illness or injury. Dr. Wong’s academic achievement, clinical experience as an OT, and research experience on employment issues for people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and with physical disabilities prepare her with critical knowledge and skills in rehabilitation and psychosocial research. As an undergraduate OT major, Dr. Wong completed an internship at the Center for Neurorehabilitation at the National Taiwan University Hospital and gained experience working with people who have physical disabilities. During her predoctoral training, Dr. Wong collaborated with researchers on studies related to improving community living and employment for people with disabilities. During her PhD program with Dr. Gael Orsmond, Dr. Ellen Cohn and Dr. Wendy Coster, her dissertation focused on how to help youth with ASD transition successfully from high school to employment. Dr. Wong developed a conceptual model to describe the relationships between facilitators and barriers of employment for youth with ASD. She was awarded several scholarships and grants which supported her dissertation research and part of her predoctoral training. With Dr. Allen Heinemann and Dr. Linda Ehrlich-Jones as a post-doctoral fellow in 2019, Dr. Wong participated in a NIDILRR-funded project which aims to promote job retention for people with physical disabilities. She conducted a systematic review on the effectiveness of job accommodations for workers with physical disabilities and developed a framework to describe the facilitators and barriers of the use of job accommodations. During her postdoctoral training, Dr. Wong acquires knowledge on how to help people with disabilities transition to employment in community settings and gain additional research skills.
