Samira Omar is a PhD Candidate in the Rehabilitation Sciences Institute at the University of Toronto and a trainee in the Acquired Brain Injury Research Lab under the supervision of Dr. Angela Colantonio. Her doctoral research dissertation is the first Canadian project examining the Black experience in traumatic brain injury rehabilitation and foregrounding the intersections of racism and racialization and the impacts on occupational life trajectories. Her research and advocacy has influenced considerations for race and equity in rehabilitation sciences research, education, and practice. She has won numerous awards during her doctoral training. In 2022 she was recognized with the Neurological Health Charities Canada Change Maker Award for her contributions to the quality of life for underserved populations with traumatic brain injury.
