Tapan S. Mehta, PhD, MSEE, is a health services researcher and data scientist, and serves as the vice chair for research at the Department of Family and Community Medicine, and the co-director of the NIH-funded NORC Behavioral Science and Analytics core at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. His independent research interests are in health services and outcomes research related to rehabilitation and cardiometabolic conditions (especially obesity and diabetes) and developing a learning health system for primary care. His funded research includes developing adaptive and optimized interventions that are scalable and sustainable in underserved settings by using pragmatic study designs. His expertise includes predictive and causal inferential analytics from large data as well as pragmatic trial designs.
